Blackboard | design lead
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for all Course related design efforts on the new & redesigned LMS platform, Blackboard Ultra.
- Leading a team to create compelling experiences for instructional designers, instructors & students.
- Collaborating with Product & Strategy teams to define the design roadmap.
- Affecting & promoting a sustainable design process.
- Revamping the Course Experience: Redefining the way the student and instructor walk through a course. This parent project involved everything from creating a course, displaying content, navigating, student way-finding, status and every touch point for the instructor or student during the life of their course. The user experiences were carefully crafted based on input from generative research and design iterations were performed based on usability testing feedback. These projects involved heavy collaboration with research, product and development for successful completion. It also involved mentoring and managing the team to work with the company's design pillars in mind to create consistent user experiences.
- Communications Initiative: As a result of the organic evolution of the LMS, over the years, multiple conflicting communication channels had been established. A small team of experienced designers took on this challenge to create minimal, meaningful channels that enhances the user experience of our users. User interviews & workshops were conducted to get input on user behavior and preferences. This project is in progress at the moment and we are testing some of our low fidelity concepts with users.
DISCO | principal designer
Key Responsibilities
- Understand the ediscovery space to provide strategic & tactical UX solutions to help users navigate a laborious ediscovery process.
- Primarily worked on Document search, Filters, Conversations & Preferences areas of the application.
- The role involved almost equal amounts of research and design work.
- Filters and Organized Saved Searches: Designed to cater to users performing repetitive searches with the same criteria. Filters allow users to quickly narrow down their search results by frequently used criteria (Tags, Custodians, or Document Types). Users no longer have to type search syntax to narrow their results, but instead are presented with multiple options, along with dynamic filter counts.
- Disco Conversations: Conversations (emails, posts, messages etc.) contribute to a big percentage of the documents in the ediscovery process. Facilitating reviewers to visualize and navigate through conversations, understanding who replied to what and when, was a key design need that had to be addressed. Designing an easy to use conversation browser that would not only allow for understanding the conversation but also significantly reduce review time was a challenging and interesting exercise.
- The Vault: The vault was conceived to cater to law firms that want to store and view e-discovery data before paying the full cost of a fully-featured document review platform. In addition to that, when a matter is finished, Disco would allow archiving all documents at a reduced rate so that they can retrieve them should they need to at a later date. The design challenges included the easy and seamless transition of documents in and out of the vault without allowing for the user to game the system since it is cheaper to keep stuff in the vault.
